Small Garden Advice

Gardens come in an array of sizes and every size garden can benefit from custom design. Your small garden isn’t hopeless - here is our advice on making it great!

  • Ensure your space is practical + looks great from every angle. You don’t need to be a designer to whip out a pen and paper and sketch out some ideas and locations. This will give you a blueprint to work off of, especially helpful if you’re on a budget and slowly want to build out your yard.

  • Less is more! It’s so easy to cram in all the beautiful flowers. We prefer the less is more approach.

  • Quality is important. Buy sturdy big pots instead of smaller pots. Planning to have al fresco breakfasts? Purchase furniture that will last.

  • Incorporate your neighbor’s yard. Check out your property lines and incorporate their trees and borders into your design process.

  • Gardens are never final. Gardening is an evolving art, like our lives. Maybe your earlier garden was designed for parties, but now you prefer to create a zen spot - If you can dream it, you can do it!

If you need help this Spring, Larkspur offers collaborative garden designs for $450. This gives you the blueprint to your custom-designed garden and the ability to slowly build it as time and budget allow.
